As is usually the case around events like E3 2018, little bits of information are leaking out to the public and fans are trying to piece them together. Today, it appears the latest piece of news to fall through the cracks of the convention concern Ubisoft’s upcoming sequel The Division 2, giving fans at not only some interesting new weapons but also a possible setting for the game.
An image has leaked showing what appears to be promotional material for The Division 2 hung at the L.A. Convention Center, the staging ground each year for E3. The poster shows characters sporting some new weapons, including a grenade launcher and crossbow, and teases fans with a new Washington DC setting, showing what appears to be a burning Capital Building in the distance.
The promotional material shows some new and interesting weapons and the Reddit post accompanying the image gives us an idea of what these weapons are. The poster identified the new grenade launcher as the Milkor M321 6-shot 40mm and the crossbow as possibly the Excalibur Vortex with the foothold removed.
Regardless of exactly what model the new weapons are, the inclusion of a crossbow and grenade launcher are undoubtedly exciting for fans. Until now no such weapons were available, with only explosive rounds coming close to matching a grenade launcher. These are also likely only the first of the new weapons we have yet to see, with hopefully even more coming quickly after it’s released.
The other detail in the promotional material is the new setting. As most know, the original game took place in New York City following the collapse of social order and government, leaving only agents of “The Division,” the last form of military, to try and maintain order. Moving this action to Washington DC will hopefully bring with it all new kinds of politically-charged post-apocalyptic content.
The good news is we won’t have to wait much longer to get more information regarding the upcoming sequel. The Division 2 is set to be a major player at Ubisoft’s E3 press conference on Monday afternoon and considering the man hours Ubisoft have put into the game you can bet they’re gonna get their money’s worth.
The Division 2 is scheduled to release by April 2019.
