Anthem Designed to Add Story Content for ‘Years to Come’

While EA briefly discussed a number of games at its E3 2018 press conference, it offered a deep dive on Anthem, arguably the biggest upcoming title from the publisher. Anthem was shown off with a brand new cinematic trailer and some gameplay footage, along with a tease about what its post-launch support will entail.

EA brought Anthem lead writer Cathleen Rootsaert on stage at E3 to discuss Anthem‘s story, and she revealed that the game is being built so that BioWare can potentially add new story content for “years to come.” Rootsaert explained that this is because of demand from BioWare fans for more story content after they finish games, and even provided some examples of what this post-launch story content could consist of.

As explained by Rootsaert, some of the story content that could come to Anthem post-launch include things like more character interactions or special events that deepen the lore. It’s also possible that Anthem will be updated to feature “entirely new storylines” and plot.

Assuming BioWare and EA keep their promises about the game, it sounds like Anthem should be a crowd-pleaser. Besides the reveal that the game is being built to support new story content for years, it was also confirmed that Anthem won’t have loot boxes, instead allowing players to purchase specific cosmetic items.

Better yet, these microtransactions won’t have any impact on gameplay at all. There will be a wide variety of customization options available, allowing players to tweak the look of their Javelin suit, but none of these customizations will offer any kind of in-game advantage.

Overall, it seems as though Anthem is trying its best to please fans. It will be interesting to see if the gameplay lives up to the hype, and if players remain engaged with it long enough for BioWare to support Anthem for years after launch as planned.

Anthem will be out on February 22 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
